    Using Electrical Appliances in Canada

    Volts

Canada, and all of North America, operates on 110 volts (60-cycle electrical power).

    Sockets

Most Canadian sockets can accommodate both North American-style two- or three-pronged plugs. However, when traveling from outside of Canada or the United States it is advisable to bring a plug adapter, especially if you are wishing to use your own small appliances, such as razors, hairdryers, etc.

Some North American two-pronged sockets cater to plugs with one small and one large prong. This is a safety feature on newer sockets, maintaining electrical polarity and lessening the chances of electrical shock.
